Today is July 7th

On Saturday, July 7th all the schools of Tak province have a technical competition at the school in Mae Sot. The Safe Haven children go to the school in Ban Tha Song Yang and their teachers chose 3 of the children from the orphanage for the English and mathematics technical competitions. Chun Chai (grade 6) was part of the group play, 3 Little Pigs, and Nikhom (grade 7) was the prince in the play, Cinderella. Nikhom was quite the smashing prince, dressed to the nines. In the English group competition, Chun Chai’s group finished first and Nikhom’s group finished second. In the individual mathematics competition, Kyaw Ehpaw (grade 2) got second. Those students who finished first, including Chun Chai, will move on to a province wide competition in Tak later this month. This is quite the accomplishment for these young students. All of their teacher’s and I were very happy that our children were doing their best.

I have just decided that when volunteers come to teach at the orphanage, I need them to put the children in small groups and teach English speaking and reading. This will really help the children improve their English, and they too may be able to go to the technical competition next year.
